10/15/15 16:35 BASIC INFO Kemo’s family got him from a friend 1 year ago when he was 3 months old. They had to surrender him due to landlord conflict. SOCIALIZATION Kemo is friendly/outgoing with strangers. He lived with 2 children ages 9-14 and is relaxed, playful, and tolerant with them. He plays exuberantly with adults and children. He’s relaxed, playful, tolerant, and plays somewhat rough with dogs he meets outside. He’s never bit anyone. BEHAVIOR Kemo doesn’t mind storms. He’s friendly with strangers who approach his home/family. He loves being bathed and brushed. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, or wakes him up. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Kemo’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, and high energy. He follows his family around. He plays tug and chase and likes balls, bones, rope toys, and chew toys. He lived inside and ate Pedigree dry food in the morning and Pedigree dry and wet food at night. He’s housetrained, potties in grass and dirt, and doesn’t have accidents. He’s well-behaved while left alone in the house and in a yard with a 3-4′ metal gate fence. He sits when asked and sits and waits to eat until his owner to tell him “go” while he’s getting his food ready. INTAKE Kemo had a soft body while we scanned (-), collared, positioned him for pictures, and pet him, and while the vet examined and vaccinated him. He often sat next to and against us, leaning into us and putting his face in our lap while we pet and talked to him. He allowed us to pick him up and put him in his kennel.

10/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Kemo came into our center as an owner surrender citing landlord issues. It is reported he lived with children ages 9-14 and is relaxed, playful, and tolerant with them. Kemo is reportedly friendly and outgoing with strangers. Owner reports Kemo is housetrained to go outside on grass and dirt. Kemo had a soft body during intake, often leaning into admissions counselor and putting face in counselor’s lap. Kemo pulled hard on his relief walk. He came into the SAFER assessment room with a lot of energy, investigating the whole room. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, tail wagging, body soft. Kemo leaned in during Sensitivity item, tail wagging. He was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game. Kemo did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, tail wagging. He lifted his head out of the Food bowl when assess-a-hand was applied to his cheek. Kemo playfully engaged with Toy, keeping a firm grip with a loose wiggly body, play bowing and engaging assessor. He engaged briefly/minimally with Rawhide, but quickly lost interest. Off leash with other dogs, Kemo greets politely. The Behavior Team feels Kemo would do best with an Experienced adopter. He may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners and focus. Kemo may also benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise, play as well as durable toys such as kongs and nylabones to positively direct his high energy and enthusiasm. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game with coaxing. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, tail wag. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Kemo greets politely.

10/18/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Kemo is tolerant and will engage in play with a solicitous female. Based on his interactions in the shelter the behavior department feels that Kemo can go to a home with a social female. He has not interacted with another male, so a pre-adoption interaction is recommended for a home with a male dog. When off leash with other dogs, Kemo greets politely. He is a bit sexually motivated. 10/20 update: Kemo briefly attempts to solicit play. 10/21, 10/22 update: Kemo engages in play with a playful female.
