I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 09/02/2015 from NY 11373, owner surrender reason stated was ATT PEOPLE.

09/02/15 16:09 Basic Info: Kawaii is a 3 year old male dog who has no prior injuries or medical problems. he was surrendered to the shelter due to aggression issues. Social Life and Personality: According to owner he has lived with 4 children ages 8-15 and was fearful around most and will bark and bite if cornered or overly interacted with but can also be playful but when plays will be exuberant to slightly rough. He has not been around other dogs or cats so his behaviors are unknown. He is partially house trained having accidents a couple times a week. He was kept mostly indoors and has a high level of energy. Behaviors: He has a history of biting people that has drawn blood but all bites have occurred when children try to play with him or corner him. Owner stated that they were able to take food away from him but he would have stiff body. When toys were taken away he would try to play tug. He was not given a bath so his behaviors are unknown and when unfamiliar people approached the house or family member he would bark, have stiff body, and would snap at times. New Family Info: He knows the command sit. He is used to brisk walks on leash and will play with squeaky toys and balls. He will play chase. He has never been crate trained and when left home alone he will go to the bathroom and will bark when they first leave and then calms down after 5-10 minutes. Loud noises will cause him to eb nervous and he will bark. He was fed both wet and dry food. Intake Behavior: During intake he would retreat from admission counselor while owner was in the room. After they left he would bark but approach admission counselor. When given treat was not interested.

Kawaii walks calmly on leash. He shows a bit of concern during some of the handling items. Hawaii was tense during handling, but had soft body language. Kawaii engages in play, body is loose and wiggly, mouth open. He became stiff and uncomfortable during paw handling. The behavior team decided to do the flank squeeze Kawaii turned quickly and tries to bite the assessor hand. Kawaii was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. Kawaii approached other dog with friendly/playful body language. Kawaii was surrender to us. According to his previous owner he has lived with 4 children ages 8-15 and was fearful around most and will bark and bite if cornered or overly interacted with but can also be playful but when plays will be exuberant to slightly rough. He has not been around other dogs or cats so his behaviors are unknown. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Flank squeeze 1: 5.
