10/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Kauai came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Kauai was exuberant for introduction and was loose for all handling. During SAFER Kauai came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Kauai joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment on food item Kauai freezes when attempting to remove his head out of the food bowl, toy item he displayed minimal interest and rawhide item he takes away with his body between the handler and the item. Due to some concerns on food resource when he freezes, the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Dog may lick hand. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 4. Dog freezes. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy or rawhide, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Kauai greets the helper dog but offers no socilitation and investigates the environment.
10/21/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Kauai greets the other dogs politely but does not seem interested in play. He may become sexually motivated with some dogs. Based on his behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Kauai can go to a home with a female dog and may be placed with another male dog but we recommend a pre-adoption interaction be required. He seems to do well with non-playful dogs so we recommend he be placed with calm, tolerant dogs. Kauai greets the helper dog but offers no socilitation and investigates the environment. 10/23 update: Kauai greets the other dog politely and is tolerant of pushy solicitation but does not engage in play. 10/27 update: Kauai greets politely but spends most of the time exploring the yard. 10/29 update: Kauai greets the other dogs briefly and is sexually motivated. 10/31 update: Kauai greets politely and seems interested but does not engage in play. 11/01 update: Kauai engages in running, bouncy play before he is sexually motivated. 11/02 update: Kauai did not take corrections well today and became overly aroused– continued to chest bump and mount the helper dog. 11/03 update: Kauai greets both males and females politely. He seems interested but does not engage in play and may become a bit forward when interacting. 11/4 update: Kauai greets politely and may be a bit forward when interacting but takes correction well.
