04/02/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I love everything I know about Katy. I love how she looks: her size, her pink and black nose, the grey patch on her eye and the grey spot next to the other, her kind eyes and her softly wagging white-tipped tail. I love how well-mannered she is: she has been a dream on the leash when I walk her, she is attentive, she seems housetrained, she takes treats nicely. I love how quietly affectionate she is, how before I can even slip my leash over her she gently nuzzles my hand with her head, how she quickly swooshes her tail when you talk to her, and how she gives kisses. I love how after she “sit”s she offers me her paw, unprompted, and then the other, and then the first again so that both are wrapped around my forearm and she offers a hug. I love how she looks at me from her cage when I tell her some lucky person will get to know the things about her I don’t…and love her! Please come meet sweet Katy at Brooklyn ACC!
03/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog:A1028933 Katy came in as a stray surrender, so her past behavior in a home is unknown. She was reported to be very tolerant of all handling during her medical exam, and during SAFER Katy was very sociable towards the assessor allowing all handling without issue. She did become a bit distracted during the tag interacting, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a loose body. During the food item, Katy only needed a bit of pressure applied to her cheek for her to lift her head from the food bowl and she was not interested in the toys or rawhide items. During the dog-dog interaction, Katy approached with her body loose and appeared interested in interacting with the helper dog. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft and a bit distracted. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip neutral.
