09/15/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/15/15 16:59 Katenka A1051618 is a young female black & white American Staffordshire terrier who was found near the finder’s residence a little while ago today. They stated they’ve seen her around before wandering the street but the finder decided to bring her in today after noticing Katenka was experiencing difficulty walking. They stated she was really sweet and allowed them to walk her to our BXAC. During intake Katenka was indeed having difficulty walking but had a loose wiggly body and allowed all handling. She allowed us to scan (-), collar her and take her pictures. She at certain points would lay on her side and not move much but was awake and aware/alert of what was going on including her initial exam and remained a sweet girl.
09/20/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Katenka was brought by good samaritans to the care center. They had seen her roaming in their neighborhood , struggling to walk. They describe her as a really sweet dog who walked with them all the way to our facility…Katenka impressed our intake staff by her friendliness and compliance. She is a tiny gal dressed in a dull and flaky coat. Her weight is decent for her size, her eyes do not seem to see too well. To make it worse, Katenka stumbles and fumbles as she seems to be affected by a neurological condition still to be diagnosed…. She is a brave girl, though and wants to go ahead, sniffs along the way, relieves herself, tries to sit by my side, eats roast beef and accepts and a bow and caresses. She has been giving a hard time to some staff but one should understand…Such a disability could make anyone quite cranky in an unknown and stressful environment….Katenka does reacts by growling at some other dogs. It could be her nature but also the result of her feeling vulnerable by her medical condition:poor vision and compromised mobility… Katenka was cool with me and we had a sweet time together. Gentle manners, soft moves and she felt..at home….Now, what she needs is a real home and a very understanding owner who will may be make her better or provide care, safety and love for what is left of her life. Katenka is at the Manhattan Care Center.
09/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Katenka was difficult to collar, she was growling with a stiff body language. Katenka became stiff and uncomfortable with handling. The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Katenka did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She was not interested in toys or rawhide. Katenka approaches the helper dog with her body tense, ears erect and high tail wag when close, growls. The behavior department feels that she would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog – dog 4. Dog approaches the helper dog while growling.
