09/23/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Kane has a little scar at the end of his nose….that and his little chicklet teeth, and one ear up and one ear down all add to his handsome, rakish, rock star good looks. Think dark chocolate marble cake to appreciate the swirl of color in his handsome, well groomed brindle coat, and like me, you’ll call him “a hunk”. He’s gorgeous! His eyes are bright and intelligent, his tail wags, and he seems happy to meet other dogs of all sizes. He wagged his tail and kissed a small dog through the kennel gate, and was excited to meet a pretty female as she passed our pen. He has an eye for the pretty ladies, our Kane! Likely housetrained, he used the facilities promptly and pulls a bit on leash as we head to the park. Back in the yard Kane and I enjoy a game of fetch and when he retrieves the ball he brings it half way back and lets the ball roll back to me the rest of the way. He’s got the whole thing down perfectly! Snuggling on the bench, giving me kisses, sitting when I ask him to, and taking treats gently all made me fall more in love with Mr. Kane. He’s a great dog wishing for his new person or family to find him quickly. Who will be the lucky one?
09/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Kane pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Kane was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. Kane was not interested in toys but took the rawhide away, body language was stiff. Kane may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address his guarding behavior. In addition to food behavior modification protocol we recommend teaching Trey “Drop It” and trade-up games. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter without children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. He does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff. When off leash with other dogs, Kane will engage in bouncy play with a playful female. He takes correction well and will offer gentle corrections when the other dog becomes too pushy.
09/23/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
