11/06/15 15:20 Kale is a black and white female pitbull that was brought in by the police as a stray. Officer stated that they spotted her just walking down the street so they brought her in. She allowed herself to be handled, collard and photographed.
11/13/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: She might not be green and leafy, but here’s why Kale is so good for you. She is a compact mama, with a lot of cuteness happening around her mouth (that subtle underbite, those little teeth, that smile!). And the way she wiggles with her whole back end, quicker and quicker, until you expect everything around her to start shaking with her when you approach is sure to put a smile on your face. Smiling triggers the release of endorphins and reduces stress related hormones! The way she will hop over any obstacle to get to her tennis ball, chomp on it with her back end in the air, or try to keep up if you throw several in succession is sure to make you laugh. Laughter expands the lungs and replenishes your cells of oxygen! She loves walks and seems housetrained, which means you’ll get exercise, vitamin D from the sun, and have motivation to get out of bed on days you aren’t feelin’ it. How she’ll almost immediately sit entirely on your lap, so you can both take in the world together (with interludes of kisses) will make you feel loved. Feeling loved can help you live longer and even fight diseases! Even if you aren’t smiling, laughing, exercising, or cuddling, I’m pretty sure just being with such a sweet, playful, charming little lady is good for you — I love her! Come get your dose of Kale at Brooklyn ACC, see if she’s right for you, and enjoy many better tomorrows with her!
11/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Kale came in a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Kale was friendly with soft body posture, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Kale came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was social and friendly towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Kale was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Kale was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Kale appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Kale allows brief sniff but seems uninterested in interacting and mostly spends her time exploring her surroundings.
11/07/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Kale greets politely and will engage in play with other playful dogs. She is tolerant but may become demanding if the other dog does not engage in play. Based on her behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Kale can go to a home with a male dog and may be placed with a female dog but we recommend that a pre-adoption interaction be required. Kale may become demanding if the other dog does not play so we recommend she be placed with tolerant, playful dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Kale greets briefly but is a bit tense. She is mostly focused on interacting with the handlers. 11/10 update: Kale allows brief sniff but seems uninterested in interacting and mostly spends her time exploring her surroundings. 11/11 update: Kale greets politely and engages in play briefly with a male. She becomes a bit unsure after the initial play session and begins vocalizing while trying to solicit play. 11/12 update: Kale greets politely and will attempt to solicit play. She is tolerant when the other dog does not respond to her solicitations. 11/13 update: Kale greets politely and attempts to solicit play. She will engage in brief bouts of running play and will begin demand barking if the other dog does not engage in play with her. 11/14 update: Kale greets politely and will attempt to solicit play. She engages in running play with a playful male and is tolerant when a dog inappropriately corrects her.
