07/02/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Wondering is what Julie is doing…Sharp eyes set in a white mask of wisdom…Wait and see what will come next….No strike, no bark and hope for the best….This is how I interpret Julie, a middle age redhead, obviously a family dog, brought to us as her owner hit a big bump on the road….Julie seems to have been well cared for. She is well dressed, well groomed and well mannered, most likely house trained and civil with humans and dogs alike. She looks a bit tired, the heat, the ordeal she is going through and can’t translate..I understand. Her eyes light up at the sight of a tennis ball and she initially follows it as it rolls on the ground. May be it reminds her of old times ?Julie walks peacefully on the leash, comes when called, even wagging her tail and even sits on command. She is a little camera shy. She really goes with the flow and does all what is expected of her. A good girl…Julie might think to herself..”May be if I am on my best behavior, I will go home or be fostered or find a new family who can appreciate and love a senior..” Julie is a charming gal who certainly still has in her all what takes to be a beloved pet. She is at the Manhattan Care Center, day and night dreaming to spend her golden years, loved, safe and respected. A volunteer updates: I was in for a surprise with Julie, yesterday…She was all of a sudden a perky mama, strolling spryly by my side and playing beautifully with a tennis ball. She was even able to carry …..2 balls in her mouth, even eying a third one but it was much too much. She was not aloof anymore, came on my lap for kisses and hugs….What an affectionate elderly. She seemed happy. I could even see a smile on her face. Julie bounced back on her feet. She is ready to make her move if you make yours….A home sweet home she needs and an owner to love….Julie is waiting….
06/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Julie came into our center on 6/25/2015. She walked nicely on leash for her relief walk, very calm, no pulling. Julie held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, body soft, low wagging tail. She was focused on other stimuli during Sensitivity item, accepting the touch. Julie was unresponsive during Tag game, very distracted. She did not pull her paw back during both Squeeze attempts. Julie had minimal interest in Food and Toy. She engaged briefly with Rawhide but then lost interest and relinquished. The Behavior Team feels Julie would do well in an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body, low wag. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is on other stimuli available. Her body is soft, tail neutral. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game with coaxing. She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food. Minimal interest. Dog smells, then walks away. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Rawhide 1. Dog engages briefly, then relinquishes.
