07/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Joseph came into the care center as a stray, and was reported to be friendly towards everyone he meets. He was said to have a very high energy level and can be rough when interacting. It was noted that chews on everything, and was reported to be an outside dog. It was also mentioned that he allows people to touch his food bowl. During SAFER Joseph was in constant movement during the handling, and consistently jumped up and mouthed the assessor hands and feet, applying moderate pressure. He was distracted during the tag interaction, and when attempting the “Paw” handling, Joseph became stiff and uncomfortable not allowing the assessor to attempt anymore handling. During the resources portion of the assessment Joseph became stiff and bit the assess-a-hand when pushed out of the food bowl, and he also became stiff when the assessor attempted to remove the toys, but was not interested in the rawhides. Due to the concerns displayed during the assessment the department recommends placement with a New Hope partner who is able to further explore the behaviors seen while in the care center and extensively counsel potential adopters before adoption into a permanent home. Look: 3. Dog consistently jumps up and mouths assessors hand applying moderate pressure, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 3. Dog is not fearful and is struggling to get away. The dog is not focused and is in constant movement, unconnected to the Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needed coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Food: 5. Dog bites assess-a-hand. Toy 1: 3. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: when off leash with other dogs Joseph greets politely, and is sexually motivated, takes corrections well. He’s high energy and does engage in rough and rowdy play with other dogs.
