07/11/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Joe came to us as an owner surrender 7/1/15. It was reported by the owner that Joe does have a previous bite history, but not much information was given on how they occurred. Joe was initially uncomfortable when entering the behavior department, but did warm up after a few minutes. He allowed the assessor to conduct most of the tactile assessment items, but raised his lip at the assessor on the squeeze test. He proved easy to handle when chewing on the toy item, but on displayed minimal interest in the food or rawhide items. The behavior department believes that Joe should be placed with a rescue that can provide any positive behavior modification before placing into a home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog freezes and lip raises Food 1: Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide1: Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with his tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.
