07/15/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A gorgeous smile, sparkling eyes and a wagging tail is the sure way to win my heart, and Jill had me at ‘hello’. Quiet in her kennel, she allowed me to leash her easily, and out we went. Likely housetrained, she used the ‘facilities’ as soon as we were out the door, and we took a short walk so that she could show me how well she does on leash. Off leash in a pen she wiggled her way between my legs, putting her head on my lap for some petting, nudging my hand if I stopped. She’s a well fed sweetheart in a gorgeous tan coat and her amber eyes twinkle with intelligence and good will. Sitting for treats and giving me her signature smile, Jill takes a treat gently from my fingers. Affectionate, gentle, and happy to make new friends, Jill was the perfect dog with whom to start my day. She said hello with appropriate body language to the other kenneled dogs we passed coming in and out, so she appears to like other dogs. Just look at her smile and tell me you wouldn’t want to start and end your day with that gorgeous face. Ask to meet Jill today.
07/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jill pulls a bit on the leash; she was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, licked hands and face. She was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open. Jill took a bit of pressure to push out of the food bowl but her body remained neutral. She was easy to handle when chewing on the toy and took the rawhide away with her head but did not place her body between the assessor and the rawhide and her body remained loose and wiggly. Jill was brought to the care center as a stray. Throughout the assessment, Jill remained friendly towards the assessor but appears to be a high energy dog. The Behavior Department feels that Jill can go to an average home that understands we recommend an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for her energy. Jill would likely benefit from obedience classes to help positively modify her habit of jumping up as a greeting and to solicit attention and to work on her leash manners. Look: 2.
