04/22/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Surrendered by her family as they are moving where she is not welcome, they sadly did not leave us any information on her and it’s clear that she is overwhelmed by her abandonment. She’s a gorgeous little girl in a clean and groomed caramel color coat. Low to the ground, big ears, well fed, staff asked me to spend some time with her to help her overcome her shyness. She’s sweet and curious, wagging her tail as she chases a tossed ball but doesn’t retrieve. Meeting other dogs through the gate with low key interest her tail gives a wag, wag, wag in gentle greeting. Definitely shy and not welcoming of petting at this point, her personality comes through in bits and pieces as when she wags her tail as she chases a bird who came into our pen. She smiles for pictures and again that insight into her loving and fun personality shines through. Jesse needs a new home and family that will love her forever, and in which she will be given the time she needs to open up and love them in return. She’s spayed and ready to begin her happily ever after. Can you open your heart to her?
04/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jesse walks with a low body language. She was fearful and attempted to get away from the handler during some items of the assessment. Jesse was shy and nervous during handling, with fearful body language. She had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. Jesse was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. She does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. This dog is fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 1. No interest. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1.No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, or exits. Helper:1033612
