06/07/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: From her kind eyes to her mild manners, everything about Jersey screams gentle sweetheart. She is very quiet in her cage and doesn’t join in the chorus of her neighbors (in fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever heard her bark!), but solicits attention with soft eye contact. She has wonderful leash manners and seems to have housetraining. When I first met her she seemed a bit lost, but wagged her tail at the sound of my voice, and when I called her over was quick to prop her paws up on me and soak up affection — it seems the company of her person goes a long way in making her feel found. She has been calm and seems friendly when we’ve seen other dogs, and has regularly participated in playgroup. Jersey and her incredibly soft personality are waiting for you at Brooklyn ACC!
06/02/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jersey came into the care center as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was noted that Jersey appeared to be friendly and maintained a relaxed body posture. During SAFER Jersey had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Jersey was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Jersey was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Jersey appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for a “Average” experienced adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently pulls paw back. Body a bit tense. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Jersey approaches the other dog with a wagging tail and explores the yard. She is tolerant
