I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 07/18/2015 from NY 10454, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

Jelly was difficult to remove from his kennel; he was behind of the kennel giving a low growl. Once he was removed from his kennel he was fearful of the shelter environment Jelly walks with a low and fearful body language. He was extremely fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. Jelly becomes extremely frightened during the tag interaction, tail tucked, and trying to exit room. He was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. Jelly does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. Jelly is fearful of the shelter noises and tries to hide behind the handler or object (chair).The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. This dog is somewhat fearful and needs an adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment. We also recommend a home without children. Jelly has been showing fearful behavior and avoids interaction in the care center. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Jelly is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, shy body language, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 3. Dog repeatedly spins toward the touch, and repeatedly tries to exit, Dog may be crouching ,tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food 1. No interest. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, or exits. Helper:A10444573

When off leash with other dogs, Jelly may greet some dogs briefly but is easily overwhelmed and mostly avoids interaction.
