05/20/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Named Jelly at intake, she lives up to her name, wanting to be the sweet topping on her person! Snuggly and affectionate, I had a hard time getting good photos of her as all she wanted to do was to be as close to me as possible. A ‘sit’ to her means sit down almost on top of the person asking! Petite and adorable in her white coat and freckled ears, her eyes show love and sweetness as her tail wags gently. She’s well groomed and a good weight, although in need of a mani/pedi as her nails are way too long. She goes potty as soon as we’re out the door indicating she’s likely housetrained, and pulls on the leash slightly as we walk to the park. She’s so cute, friendly and tail waggy and so happy to be with her person, I know she’ll learn everything she needs to know about walking on a leash very quickly. Her absolute favorite thing to do is cuddle close, doing a partial roll for better tummy rub access. She’s a gentle spirit, sweet and easy, looking for her lifetime cuddle partner. If your inner spirit is a cuddler, than Jelly is the girl you want to meet. Ask for her today.
05/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jelly was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, soft wiggly body. She was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Jelly engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open and approaches the assessor in a friendly manner once movement ceases. She was a bit difficult to position for the paw squeeze, but she showed no signs of aggression. Jelly had minimal interest in all the resources, smelling, licking, mouthing and turning away from food, toy and rawhide. Jelly was brought to the care center as a stray. Upon intake, she was excited but had a loose, wiggly body and allowed for all handling without concern. She displayed similar behaviors throughout the assessment and was very friendly toward the assessor. The Behavior Department believes Jelly can go to an average home that understands she may benefit from daily exercise. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item and licks lip. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1&2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back her paw. Food 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Rawhide 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away.
05/20/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs Jelly is a bit tense at greeting but allows the helper dog to sniff her. She begins to engage in bouncy play once comfortable. She is tolerant with a pushier dogs rough play style and will offer appropriate correction. 5/28 update: Jelly is bouncy and mouthy. She can be a bit pushy in her attempts to solicit play with an uncomfortable female.
