10/09/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: JC is still trying to find his place here at the Manhattan Care Center. He is a new arrival who is understandably a little anxious and cries at times. He comes for comfort, leans against my legs, poses his head in my lap and waits for caresses. His tail wags. He is thankful for the reassurance. He seems happy to meet a large Cane Corso female on the other side of the pen. He runs and jumps very high for a ball. He sits for treats. He even walks well on the leash and does his business as soon as we leave the building. All things he most likely used to do, yesterday when he was still a pet. Then the crying comes back but hopefully will taper down as beautiful JC settles in the care center environment. JC is a good looking boy who seems to have been well cared for. His coat is thin, though on his head and back. A better nutrition might just do the trick. JC was not thrilled to go back to his kennel at the end of our time together. It totally makes sense. He yearns for a home, a master, a family. Will you be the one, will you be JC’s new forever owner ?
10/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
JC came into our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. He was easy to place in and out of his kennel and allowed all handling. JC whined throughout his SAFER assessment. He did not settle easily for Look item, but once positioned he averted his eyes with wagging tail. JC leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, body soft. JC followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft. He gently pulled his paw back on first paw Squeeze, but did not pull it back for the second Squeeze attempt. JC had no interest in Food, Toy, or Rawhide. Off leash with other dogs, JC will whine and pace the pen. Due to his ongoing anxious behavior, the Behavior Team feels JC would do best with an Experienced adopter that can provide mental and physical stimulation regularly to assist with any uneasiness he displays. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1.
