11/21/15 08:35 Basic Info: Jazzy A1058525 is a spayed 5yr old female white & brown AMPBT mix who was bought from a neighbor at 5wks old and is being surrendered due to the owner going into the hospital. Jazzy’s last vet visit was in 2014 and she currently has no known health problems/injuries. Socialization: Around strangers Jazzy is fearful/aggressive towards them. She’ll growl, bark and sometimes lunge but with others she’s fine/calm. She’s lived with 2 children a now 22yr old & a 7yr old. She’s relaxed/playful with them also with adults & a young male Chihuahua whom she plays with the most. Jazzy hasn’t been around cats and hasn’t bitten/scratched a person or animal. Behavior: Jazzy will sleep through storms/fireworks. Jazzy will growl if someone other than the owner touches/moves her food/food bowl, toys & treats. She hasn’t been allowed on the furniture for the past 2yrs. Jazzy doesn’t mind being held/restrained. She hasn’t been disturbed while sleeping/resting. Jazzy hasn’t been groomed at home; she’s been taken to Petco (where the owner’s haven’t gotten any negative feedback about her visits). Jazzy prefers soft brushes. When someone approaches the home/family member she’ll bark & or growl. For A New Family to Know: Jazzy is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident & excitable with a medium activity level. The owner likes how loving & protective Jazzy is. Jazzy loves to run & play with her two Pittie friends in the park. When the owner is home Jazzy follows them around sometimes. She likes ball & thick bone toys. Jazzy likes fetch, chase, wrestling & tug. She’s mostly an indoor only dog who’s walked 2-x a day where she pulls hard on the leash sometimes. Jazzy eats dry Pedigree dog food 2x a day & enjoys Beggin Strips. She’s house trained and is well behaved when left home alone. Jazzy’s known commands are “sit” & “stop”. She’s walked off leash in the park where she’ll wander some but will come when called. Intake Behavior: When spoken gently to from afar Jazzy had a low body posture with a wagging tail. When approached to be scanned Jazzy lunged, barked & growled. To minimize her stress the owner assisted with scanning (-), collaring, taking her pictures & placing her into a kennel. Initially Jazzy was hesitant to go into the kennel but went in smoothly, then an admissions counselor was able to place a water bowl/food & have their hand sniffed. When taken out during her stay she had a loose wiggly body.

Jazzy came into our center as an owner surrender citing owner’s health issues. Owner states Jazzy lived with a child age 7 and also a Chihuahua and was relaxed and playful around them. Behavior around cats is unknown. Owner reports that around strangers Jazzy is fearful and will growl, bark and sometimes lunge. Owner states Jazzy will growl if someone other than owner touches or moves her food bowl, toys, or treats and if anyone approaches the home or family members. It is reported Jazzy has been groomed at a professional groomers with no issues. Owner reports Jazzy is housebroken and well behaved when left alone in the home. During intake, when spoken gently to from afar Jazzy had a low body posture with wagging tail. Once approached to be scanned Jazzy lunged, barked, and growled at admissions counselor. When off leash with other dogs, Jazzy is intially nervous and offers brief greeting. She approaches and sniffs the helper dog, then offers a low growl when he reciprocates her interest. When a handler attempts to pick up Jazzy’s leash, she growls and attempts to bite the handler. Due to staff safety concerns as well as concern for Jazzy’s stress level with strangers, we are not going to perform a SAFER assessment at this time. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification and counterconditioning to address Jazzy’s behavior challenges.
