08/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jazzy was said to have a high activity level, and the owner states she is very house trained. It was also stated that when Jazzy is left alone in the home she is well behaved. Around other dogs it was reported that Jazzy is very alert and relaxed, but does not engage in play with them. The owner mentioned that Jazzy has been around children but will only interact with children she is familiar with. The owner also mentioned that Jazzy has no pervious bite history, but can be very cautious around new people, and will give back off signals when uncomfortable before escalating to a snap. During SAFER Jazzy was social and greeted the assessor with a loose body and wagging tail, but became uncomfortable with sudden movements around her head and neck area. She was tolerant of all handling items, but maintained a tense body posture, and she was playful during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Jazzy was stiff and took bigger bites when pushed out of the food bowl, but did not escalate to growling or snapping. She was not interested in the toy items, and when engaged with the rawhides, her body was soft but did not relinquish the item to the assessor. Jazzy can be fearful of new situations, and needs time to adjust. The department feels Jazzy would do best with an experienced adopter with no children, and it is recommended that introductions are done slowly and Jazzy be given the opportunity to interact at her own pace. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip licks. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. She does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Jazzy is more comfortable interacting. She enters the yard with a confident body posture and will approach the other dogs to greet.
