06/18/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/18/15 18:04 Jaxson was found on the steet as a stray. He is guessed to be a Shih Tzu Jack Russel mix. The finder kept him for a while. He was in the home with 4 cats and a 10 year old. Jaxson followed the cats around and smelled them. He allowed the young child to handle him, but occasionally would snap at the adult in the home when she was petting him over hand on his head while standing over him. At intake Jaxson had a tense body and the counselor did not want to stress him out so she avoided touching him directly. He did growl when a staff member was attempting to greet him and pick him up. That staff member was eventually able to pick him up and collar him.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jaxson came in as a stray, but previously lived with the finder who he stayed with for a while. Jaxson was in the home with 4 cats and a 10 year old child. The finder stated Jaxson followed the cats around and smelled them. Jaxson allowed the young child to handle him, but occasionally would snap at the adult in the home when she was petting him over hand on his head while standing over him. It was reported Jaxson had tense body language and growled at the counselor when attempting to collar him upon intake. During SAFER Jaxson came into the assessment room with tense body language, when the assessor went to try and collar him he growled and his body was tense. Not all tactile items were able to be conducted as Jaxson growled at the assessor when trying to collar him. During the resources portion of the assessment Jaxson was easy to handle when engaged with the items. . In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue that can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.
