06/10/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/10/15 10:57 Java was found on 180th st and Southern blvd in the bronx. The finder was coming out of his building when java approached him. He said it seems as if someone tied him up and he got loose. No further information was available. During intake, Java was very friendly and outgoing. He allowed all handling. He was very friendly with the staff and licked the finder’s hand on his way to the back. He jumped up to greet us and had a loose body and open mouth. He sat and took treats as he posed for the cameras. He allowed scanning and collaring.

A volunteer writes: The word/name ‘Java’ has so many meanings that you’re simply going to have to adopt him, Google his name and see if it fits! A handsome brindle boy, long legged and elegant, Java shows off wonderful leash manners as we walk to the park. Likely housetrained, he took advantage of being outside the moment we hit the street! Java has a fun bouncy step from time to time as his inner puppy surfaces — too cute! He sits when asked to (most of the time), takes treats gently, and in the park stopped to watch and wag his tail at a bunch of kids playing. Fun, friendly and gorgeous, he rolls into my legs for cuddles as his tail wags happily. His intake notes say he was so friendly when being processed and that he kissed staff who were doing his paperwork. How’s that for friendly and relaxed! Wagging his tail at easy greeting at dogs of all sizes, it was clear he wanted to meet and play (as he did with the park squirrels!). In playgroup he’s playful and friendly, happy to be social with other dogs. Gorgeous, friendly, social, well behaved, intelligent and sweet, Java has it all, except a person or family to love. You can change that. Ask to meet him today and make him yours.
06/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Java walks nicely on a leash and was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, licked hands. He was in constant movement throughout handling, but had soft body language. He quickly became aroused when playing tag but his movement was unconnected to the assessor, he was unresponsive when touched and focused on other stimuli in the room. Java was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had neutral body language. He took away the toy but had neutral body language. He also took away the rawhide; his body was a bit stiff. Java was brought to the care center as a stray; upon intake as very friendly, outgoing and allowed all handling. Throughout the assessment, Java displayed a high energy level and was in constant movement sometimes attempting to get closer to the assessor and other times unconnected to the assessor. He occasionally jumps up and lightly mouths the handler when he gets over aroused. Java showed some potential for possessive behavior over toys and rawhide. The Behavior Department believes Java would do best in an experienced home with no young children that can monitor and positively modify and guarding behavior if it manifests in the home. He also appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy and he would likely benefit from obedience classes. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, panting. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog does not pull back paw but leans body away from the assessor. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed or back. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body not stiff. Dog lifts head after moderate pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and his body is neutral. No growling or stiffness. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is a bit stiff.
