05/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Janel came into the care center as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake she was reported to be easy to handle and was described as friendly. During SAFER Janel did not solicit attention from the assessor, and appeared to be more interested in her surroundings. She did show some discomfort during the handling portions of the assessment, and made several attempts to get away from the assessor between items. Janel was distracted and unresponsive to the assessor during the tag interaction, and during the food item she had a stiff body posture, and did not lift her head when being pushed out of the food bowl. Janel only showed minimal interest in the toy items, and during the rawhide item, Janel appeared to more interested in the assess-a-hand rather than the rawhide when removed. Janel did show some concerns during the food item, as well as some discomfort with some handling, so the department feels Janel would be best suited for an experienced adopter with no small children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is neutral, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needed coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Squeeze 2: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Food: 3. Dog follows the dish, her tail between her legs, ears are forward. Her body is stiff. Dog does not lift her head from the bowl when hand is applied to her cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Janel has a wagging tail but has ears pinned back and is stiff while greeting at the gate. When in the yard she is bouncy and solicits for play but does appear conflicted. She is tolerant and enjoys play.
