08/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jake lived with 3 adults and a 13 year old. The owner stated Jake was playful towards everyone in the household, but he is a strong dog and played very rough with the 13 year old. Jake also lived with another dog as well as a cat and it was reported that they have coexisted well. Jake was also reported to be social with other dogs outside of the home. The owner stated Jake lived with a cat as well and was tolerant and respectful towards the cat. His activity level was said to be high, and he is successfully housebroken. It was mentioned that Jake will destroy indoor and outdoor items, but he is crate trained and can do well in his crate for hours. During SAFER Jake was very excitable, and consistently jumped on the assessor when greeting. Jake had high energy and was difficult to position for the handling portion of the assessment, but when settled he allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue, and he was playful during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Jake only showed minimal interest for the food item and when engaged with the toys and rawhides his body was loose and he relinquished both items to the assessor. Jake appears to be a high-energy dog and the owner stated he played very rough with the 13 year old in the previous home, so the department feels Jake will likely do best with an experienced adopter with no young children prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Food: 1. Minimal interest in food, dog licks, then turns away. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish rawhide to you. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Jake is social and playful, engaging in rough play with other females. He may attempt to mount but responds well to correction.
