05/06/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/06/15 14:35 Jade was adopted from a shelter about 4 days ago and she is currently 4 years old. Her owner could no longer keep her do to allergies. She lived in a home with 2 adults. Over the past 4 days, she has passed children while walking and owner stated she doesn’t usually pay attention to them. She has been curious about the dogs she has passed while out for walks and she usually sniffs them. She has not bitten anyone or any other animals. She has been described as friendly, very mellow, and a great listener. Owner stated that she wasn’t too interested in dry food, but that she loved the home cooked meals. She also seemed to enjoy rawhide treats. She appears to be house-trained and hasn’t had any accidents. She was very sweet during the intake. She had a soft body and a wagging tail that was not up. She allowed petting and handling, and she showed no signs of aggression.

A volunteer writes: Jade wants to remain incognito…Is there really a dog in this kennel? Jade blends with her blanket. Indeed, this little “grey mouse” is very shy, even a little scared and she prefers the safety of her den rather than to venture into the care center’s hallway. She is a good girl, though, accepts my leash and takes a walk around the block. Her kennel is clean ..She relieves herself immediately as we reached the street. Free in a pen, Jade is a bit hand shy and does not accept my treats. Realizing quickly that I am not that bad a person after all, beautiful Jade comes when I call her, sits by my side and even asks for roasted chicken. She spotted my stash of goodies…She is a smart girl. Bolder, she aims for my lap and settles for caresses. What a pretty female she is! Jade is medium sized and wears a perfect silvery dress. She is elegant and seems to have been beautifully cared for. She was not a backyard dog but a pet who for some reason got out of luck…She is attracted to other dogs, “checks them out” but then, seems to think better and comes back to me. Jade is a gentle gal, very pretty, in mint condition, timid but quite loving. She would love to be someone’s forever best friend and start her life again with you. Jade is waiting at the Manhattan Care Center for your home.
06/06/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jade did very well on her SAFER assessment, but her in-kennel behavior has deteriorated. Jade may lunge, stare, and hard bark when approached in the kennel. She has also demonstrated a tendency to overcorrect other dogs and may respond disproportionately. Her behavior outside the kennel with humans remains soft and social, but she is not thriving in this environment and we feel it is in her best interest to move into a stable home environment as quickly as possible. We recommend experienced adopters. 4/25 SAFER: Jade walks calmly on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Jade engages in play, body is loose and wiggly, mouth open. Jade did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She was easy to handle when chewing on toys but was not interested in rawhide. She was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. Jade did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog – dog 1. Dog approaches the helper, soft body, tail neutral, but not playful. Helper: A1033941
04/29/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Jade attempts to assertively mount a male and mostly does not interact with the male while in the yard. Due to Jade’s discomfort around other dogs, it is recommended that she go to a home where they are willing to manage her around other dogs and provide behavior modification to address her behavior and the underlying cause of her discomfort. 5/14 update: Jade is uncomfortable and will correct when the other dog attempts to interact. 5/28 update: Jade greets the helper dog at the gate with a stiff body and lip curled so she is muzzled for her interaction. Upon introduction she sniffs the helper dog and she allows him to sniff her then walks away.
