06/04/15 13:53 BASIC INFO: Jack A1038772 is a 4 year old, neutered Chihuahua short haired Mix. he was obtained by the Owner from a Family friend. The main reason for surrender is due to a newborn in the home, and the dog barks alot. He was last taken to a Veterinarian in January 2015 for hacking, he was seen and the hacking stopped the next day. SOCIALIZATION: Jack is shy around strangers for a few days. He has lived with a 6 day old baby, and he was usually tolerant of the baby. He plays gentle with adults. He does not play with children. he has lived with a cat and was tolerant of the cat. the cat did not like the dog. He has never bitten a person or animal. BEHAVIOR: Jack does bark too much and apparently that is his only behavior issue. During storms/fireworks or loud noises, he is nervous. He does bark if you move his food bowl. Is not bothered if if you take away his toy or raw hide. He does not like baths. He barks if an unfamiliar approaches the home or the Family. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: The best ways to describe Jack are by saying that he is, friendly, affectionate, shy, pushy, and excitable. He has a very high activity level. The dog’s favorite activities are playing around. When home, Jack followed the Owner everywhere. He loves to play with squeaky toys, stuffed toys and balls. He likes to play tug. Jack has been kept mainly indoors. He slept on Owner’s bed. He was fed wet Beneful food, half a can, twice a day. He is mostly house trained but does have accidents daily in the home. Outside he usually potties on gravel or grass. When left home alone, he barks alot. For exercise he would go running with Owner. He does pull lightly on the leash. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE: Jack was very tense and nervous during Intake. He did bark at Counselor upon approach.

06/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jack came to our center as an owner surrender. It is reported he has been around a newborn baby and lived with a cat. He was very nervous and tense during intake, barking at admissions counselor. Jack was difficult to get out of the kennel for his relief walk, barking and lunging/biting at the rope. He raised his lip and tried to bite during Look item, so other tactile items were skipped. Jack had no interest in Food or Rawhide, with minimal interest in Toy, sniffing before walking away. Owner reports Jack as being playful with squeaky toys, stuffed toys, and balls, so this behavior may be manifesting due to the environment. Jack was also difficult to leash to return back to kennel, jumping up at assessor, vocalizing, and shaking his head to remove the rope. Due to Jack’s attempting to bite during tactile handling portions of the assessment, he must be placed with a New Hope partner. Look: 5. Dog freezes and/or growls or tries to bite. Food: No interest Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-Dog: No play. Nervous, no real interaction with others, roams.

A shelter staff member writes:
Meet Jack the chi chi. This boy came into our care center as an owner surrender, and is very fearful here in the shelter. Due to a new family member addition Jack was surrendered because he did not like the new family member. This boy is in need of his new forever home that is peaceful and quiet without many changes in his environment. Pull him today from MACC!!!
