05/13/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I’m not sure if Jabberjaw was named as he barks to let you know he needs to go out to go potty, or if he was named after the Talking Shark in the old cartoon series. For whatever reason he was named, he’s a gorgeous, super friendly dog who loves to cuddle, gets excited and playful when other dogs are around, has good leash manners, is likely housetrained, sits when asked to but politely refused my treats. His coat is stunning and clean, his weight perfect for his size, and if there’s an available lap his paws are up in it to steal a kiss! He’s shy about eye contact for the camera, has the cutest ears framing his adorable little face, and leans in for petting. Walking back from the park with another volunteer and her dog, JJ (for short) was relaxed and easy walking side by side on a slack leash. Good boy JJ!! JJ will do well in a home with another dog as he enjoys the company of his fellow canines. He’s playful, sweet, and fun and is hoping to meet you today.
05/13/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jabberjaw walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Jabberjaw was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Jabberjaw was not interested in toys or rawhide. He approaches the helper dog with his body not stiff, tail at spine level, ears relaxed. Jabberjaw did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. When off leash with other dogs Jabberjaw is tense upon greeting and may initially correct when the other dog sniffs him, but he loosens up and allows sniffing. 5/21 update: Jabberjaw is more comfortable while socializing. He is interested in other dogs but does not engage in play.
