08/26/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Surrendered because her owner can no longer care for her, we’re told that Isa is friendly to all, does well with other dogs and cats, likes children, likes to take baths, sleeps in her own bed, and is playful, loves walks and is walked twice a day and likes to jog. She’s an adorable little girl, a bit too thin in my opinion, but friendly and outgoing. Thrilled to be out for a walk to show off her housetraining skills, she has a lively energy as she walks and has good leash manners (she pulls slightly). She ignores other dogs we pass, her tail wags as we walk, and when we stop to take some pictures she makes great eye contact and doesn’t mind being tethered. In my lap for some hugs and kisses she’s adorably friendly, and soft. Her lively energy, friendly and sparkling personality is ready to find a new person or family to share her life with. Is it you?
08/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Isa came to our center as an owner surrender after her owner was admitted to the hospital and can no longer care for her. It is reported she is outgoing and friendly with children, strangers, dogs, and cats. Owner reports Isa enjoys walks and being a jogging partner. During intake, Isa was friendly, greeting staff with wagging tail and open mouth, allowing all handling. Isa held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, lip lick, body soft, tail low wag. She stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, tail down, body soft, lip lick. Isa followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft, settling easily at end of game. She did not pull her paw back on first Squeeze attempt, tail wagging. Isa gently pulled her paw back on second Squeeze attempt. Isa gulped Food faster as assess-a-hand approached, tail down. She had minimal interest in Toy. Isa took Rawhide away, body a bit stiff, requiring trade up to relinquish. When off leash with other dogs, Isa greets briefly but will lip curl when approached from behind. Due to her potential possessiveness with Food and Rawhide, the Behavior Team feels Isa would do best with an Experienced adopter with no young children. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body, lip lick, body soft. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is down, body soft. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, tail wag. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, tail down. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Rawhide 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is a bit stiff.
