SAFER: EXPERIENCED HOME
Iris came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Iris was nervous with her tail tucked after time passed she became calm and well behaved, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Iris came into the assessment room nervous with her tail tucked, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Iris followed the handler with her body low and fearful during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Iris was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Iris has been showing fearful behavior. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment, please note that behavior may change when Iris is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. We recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Iris be given the opportunity to interact at her own pace, so the behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body tense, mouth closed.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful.
Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
