07/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ice Age was a bit stiff during the interaction, continually gave whale eye, was difficult to position and became more uncomfortable as the handling continued, beginning to freeze when the assessor would sit down and try to attempt Squeeze. He became easily over aroused during tag and responded with a high tail, erect ears and closed mouth, he turned quickly toward the hand after each pass. Ice Age ceased eating each time the assessor reached for the bowl; however, he became a bit stiff. He showed concerning behavior with toys and rawhide, freezing and growling over both resources and lifting lip when the assessor reached for the rawhide. Ice Age was found as a stray and brought to the care center by his finders who reported multiple incidences where Ice Age snapped at the teenager in the home, once around food, once around toys and once when he was reportedly being petted. Due to his concerning behavior reported by his finders, his uncomfortable, tense nature while being handled during the assessment and his potential to guard resources, the Behavior Department feel Ice Age would do best if placed with a New Hope Partner. He would likely benefit from being placed with Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification to address this guarding behavior and work with him to become more comfortable being handled and can extensively counsel potential adopters before placement into a permanent home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and turns quickly towards the hand when touched. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog freezes. Food: 2. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out, but body becomes a bit stiff each time. Toy 1: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Rawhide: 4. Dog freezes, growls, and lifts lip.
