DOG INFORMATION SHEET
Where did this dog come from? Stray – Outside
ORIGINAL SOURCE Found as a Stray
Animal’s Name: Hugo (A1054974)
WHY ARE YOU BRINGING THIS DOG IN? Is a Stray – Was Tied Up
Describe his behavior:
Observation’s made from a complete stranger to Hugo:
When first approached, I kneeled down and made myself appear small to Hugo to make him feel more comfortable. Hugo had his tail between his leg’s, showed teeth, barked and growled. Keeping a safe distance from Hugo, I gave him some smelly wet dog food, and Hugo went to town cleaning the entire dish. At this point Hugo seemed a bit more relaxed and I was able to safely untie Hugo from the tree, still keeping a safe distance from him.
PLAYGROUP:
When off leash with other dogs, Hugo is very fearful of his environment but greets the other dog politely. He may become a bit sexually motivated but takes correction well.
SAFER: NEW HOPE ONLY
Hugo came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Hugo came into the assessment room very fearful and timid. This behavior was maintained when entering the behavior assessment room. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Hugo freezes and lip curls at the assessor on the Look item. During this portion of the assessment on food item Hugo ceases eating when attempting to remove the food bowl away from him, toy item he displayed no interest and rawhide item he showed minimal interest. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
Look: 5. Dog freezes and lip curls.
Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out.
Toy 1: No interest.
Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away.
