11/04/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Is he named Huggie because he gives the best hugs? You’re going to have to come meet him to find out!! So anxious to come out for a walk he goes potty as soon as we’re out the door. Anxiety resolved! Although he’s a bit too thin in my opinion, his caramel color coat is gorgeous, his amber eyes the perfect complement to his coat. His leash manners are lovely, and after our pleasant walk to the park we head to the yard. Huggie seems to love small dogs, play bowing to a ‘little’ through the gate, and happily wagging his tail in greeting to three ‘littles’ awaiting transport. Offered a treat, he takes it gently, making a cute noise as he eats it — like a little kid enjoying a snack. Quietly exploring our pen, sniffing the good smells, and chasing after a ball (no retrieve), Huggie is hoping to share his life, and some hugs, with you.
11/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Huggie came to us as a stray on 11/1/15. When entering the behavior room he was interested in interacting with the assessor. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items with relaxed body language though he was a bit nervous at certain points. During the tag interaction Huggie did not engage in play but did follow the assessor with soft and slightly nervous body language. He proved easy to handle on the toy item having soft body when attempting to take it from him. The behavior department believes that Huggie can go to an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.
11/04/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
While in our care center Huggie has only exhibited sexually motivated behavior while interacting off leash and has not had the opportunity to meet another male. Due to this the behavior department recommends that Huggie have a pre-adoption interaction before being placed in a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs Huggie is highly sexually motivated. He does not cease mounting when handler correction is offered. 11/5 update: Huggie continues to be highly sexually motivated. He does not relent when offered correction from dog or handler.
