07/20/15 16:56 Honey is a 12 year old brown and white female spayed american pitbull terrier who is being surrendered due to allergies in the home. Honey has been with the family 1 year. Honey lived with 3 adults and 2 small children. Honey is loose and playful with the entire family and tolerant of the small children. Honey has not been exposed to cats. Honey gets her exercise from leash walks and is house broken. Honey has been off leash in the park and is reported to have good recall. When meeting other dogs on leash walks she will make an introduction and then continue on her way. Honey will tolerate a bath and will struggle for a nail trim. Honey will not guard her food toys or treats. Honey does not being held or restrained. Honey is indifferent to toys but enjoys treats and peanute butter. She knows the commands sit and come. Honey can be startled by loud sharp noises. When the family is home she likes to be where they are. When home alone she is well behaved. Honey does not have a crate. Honey is not reported to be defensive to strangers. Honey eats dry food. Upon intake Honey was fearful to introduction with a tucked tail and wide eyes. Honey was also fearful to the kennel rope but not defensive. Honey is very treat motivated and once offered Honey became loose for all handling. Counselor was able to scan for microchip (negative) collar and photograph. Honey walked well on leash and was reponsive to guidance. Honey was much more confident at the end of the interaction.

07/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE

Honey previously lived with 3 adults and 2 small children. The owner stated Honey is loose and playful with the entire family and tolerant of the small children. The owner mentioned Honey is house broken and she understands the commands sit and come. It was reported but the owner when Honey is home alone she is well behaved. Upon intake Honey was fearful, tail tucked and wide eyes. Honey was very treat motivated and once offered Honey became loose for all handling. During SAFER Honey came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was a bit friendly towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Honey followed the assessor but body low during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment on food item she didn’t lift her head when attempting to remove her head from the food bowl with stiff body posture. Toy item she showed no interest and rawhide item she settle close to the handler firm, loose and wiggly, so the behavior department feels Honey can be suitable for an experience adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 3. Dog follows the dish, her tail between her legs, ears are forward. Her body is stiff. Dog does not lift her head from the bowl when hand is applied to his cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide.

Off leash in playgroup Honey is fearful and nervous. She tries to hide under the bench and avoids the other playmate. She seems to like handler interaction. 7/23 update: Honey continues to be fearful and nervous. She is selective but seems to relax the tiniest bit with other low-key non-interacting dogs. She seems overwhelmed when other dogs approach to greet and might correct. 7/24 update: Honey continues to be nervous and will correct if she is feeling overwhelmed or other dogs approach too close to her. Continues to enjoy handler interaction. 7/25 update: Honey continues to be nervous and fearful. She mostly avoids other playmates and explores the yard. 7/29 update: Honey is fearful and defensive; she will offer a lip curl and a correction when the other dog attempts to sniff her. 8/7 update: Honey is more comfortable but is not tolerant when a dog lingers in her face to greet. She will offer a lip curl and will snap when the other dog does not walk away.
