A volunteer writes: Within the first two days of his arrival, Hennessy was on a first name basis with everyone. It’s hard not to notice and remember him. He is tall and gangly, and upon arrival, was emaciated. The bones in his skull appeared sunken in, giving the rest of his features a somewhat unnatural, disproportionately huge look. His enormous eyes peer out at you, and his ears look somewhat comical on the sides of his thin head, as another volunteer put it, he’s a “walking skeleton.” Though apparently living with a family, ages new born to adults, it seems as though Hennessy was largely ignored. At least when it came to feeding him. Nonetheless, both his owner reports and his behavior exam confirm he doesn’t have a problem if you touch his toys or treats. And that’s the thing with Hennessy, this pup holds no grudges. In fact, when I first walked into the room he was in, he was tap dancing in his kennel, huge smile on his face, a welcome that you couldn’t deny. It might be because he seems very housetrained, but Hennessy was doing his best to let me know he wanted to come out with me. On our walk, he was so pleasant, so sweet, and no surprise, repeatedly sat for treats and though he was a bit of a scavenger, most of his attention was focused on me. In the yard, he likes to roughhouse (in a gentle way) but will settle down on his back anticipating a belly rub. He’s generous with his kisses and volunteers have nicknamed him “Mr. Wiggles” because he’s so loose and goofy. Trust me when I say, Hennessy will make a lasting impression on you when you meet him, and you too will not be able to forget his name!
