08/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Hammy came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have information on his past behaviors in a home. At intake it was noted that Hammy approached the counselor with a loose body and waging tail, and attempted to mount the counselor but stopped when corrected. During SAFER Hammy had high energy, and was difficult to position for the handling items, but once settled he allowed the assessor to conduct all items without issue, and he had soft body language during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Hammy was easy to handle when engaged with the food, allowing the assessor to easily push him out of the food bowl. He was also easy to handle when engaged with the toys and rawhides, but did not relinquish the items to the assessor. Hammy appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter with an average amount of dog experience who is prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1&2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy or rawhide, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness.
