A volunteer writes:
Hamilton is one welcoming dog in his kennel! A middle aged gentleman, bright eyed, tail wagging, body wiggling and all dressed up in an impeccable suit. He is ready for his outing and promised to be my best  and most well behaved date ever…Hamilton is certainly one good looking fellow. I do see the Rotie in his markings and this makes him even more attractive to me….Hamilton was found in a Chinese restaurant where he had taken refuge from a bunch of kids stoning him…He is unharmed, thankfully and does not hold any grudge against us, humans, on the contrary, he is quite a friendly and sociable guy. He walks very nicely on the leash , eliminates in one stop, sits like a soldier, on command, comes at once when called and takes food extremely politely from my hand. He can jump too for food or a ball but his weight stops him a bit in his attempts. He loves a butt scratch, sweet talks and caresses and is not embarassed to show his feelings…Hamilton seems to have been well cared for. He does have some calluses but his coat is clean, well groomed and his weight shows that he was quite well fed. Hamilton seems to have been once  or twice , one of our customers here at the care center, when he responded to the names of Zerro and Nero…I hope than this time, he will go to a home and a master who will call him FIDO and make sure that he remains put,  for ever this time, as a beloved and loyal best friend. Hamilton is at the Manhattan Care Center.

Behavior
Nero walks calmly on the leash and was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. He was calm and relaxed during handling., but showed some concerning behavior during the food bowl test – stiffening, but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. He put his body between the assessor and toy, showing no growling or stiffness and took the rawhide away, but body language was stiff. Nero rushed in confidently towards the helper dog, but showed no aggression.

Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, tail wagging, soft body and mouth closed.

** Tag not completed due to limping. **

Flank squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all.

Food: 4. Dog freezes.

Toy: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness.

Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff.

Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
