He was rehomed to his owner at only a few weeks old and the owner bottle fed him util he was able to take in food on his own. Gundee was surrendered due to young children in the family moving in and having severe allergies that have sent them to the hospital. SOCIALIZATION: Gundee lived with 4 adults and 3 children, ages 6, 4, and 3. The owner states that Gundee is so gentle with the children and he loves the. He allows everyone in the house hold to handle him. When he is around other dogs, his tail is usually tucked in the beginning of the meeting. He will sniff them and allow the dog to sniff him. As soon as he warms up he relaxes his body and will offer playbows. The owner states he has no problem nipping (correcting) a dog if they are too forward in their approach. It is unknown how he is with cats. BEHAVIOR: Gundee allows you to touch his food bowl while eating, but will growl if you gone near his bone while he has it. To get the bone away the owner will offer another item of highe value or wit until he has walked away. He gets bathed in the tub with the shower head and the vet will cut his nails. He is not bothered with unfamiliar people approaching him or his family or home. Theowner states he knows sit and give paw, but is still working on leash manners and not pulling. He is well behved when left unattended in the home. It is rare for him to go to the bathroom in the home, but if he does its because he gets excited. He has never been crate trained. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: Gundee loves all doggie toys and will play fetch. Excpet he will not release the toys, he will make you chase him while he carrier it. 05/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gundee came to us as an owner surrender on 5/23/15. It was reported by the previous owner that Gundee has lived with 4 adults and 3 children; he is very gentle around the children and allows everyone to hold and handle him. In addition, the owner did state that does growl when you try to take his bone away which was consistent with SAFER results. When entering the behavior room Gundee has nervous body language and his tail is tucked. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items, but was tense a slightly trembling during some of these items. Gundee growled and bit the assess-a-hand during the food bowl test. He also showed some concerning behavior during the rawhide test – stiffening and growling, but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. Due to Gundee’s potential for possessive behavior over food, and the rawhide items, the behavior department believes that Gundee would do best if placed with a rescue. The rescue should be able to provide resource behavior modification protocols, and we recommend teaching Gundee “Drop It” and trade-up games. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body a bit stiff and trembling, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needs coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 5. Dog bites assess-a-hand. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. Rawhide: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Gundee is polite when greeting at the gate and has a wagging tail when he approaches in greeting. He is tolerant when solicited for play but does not reciprocate and instead explores the yard.
