A staff member writes: Meet Guellelo! Guellelo is a handsome boy who has some great tricks to show you, such as sit and stay! Unfortunately he is a bit stressed out in the shelter environment and we feel that Guellelo would do his best in a home with experienced pet parents and no children. Give this little guy the chance to show you what he’s really made of!
PROFILE:
BASIC INFO- Guellelo’s family got him as a gift from a family member and surrendered him due to lack of time.
SOCIALIZATION – Guellelo is friendly/outgoing with strangers. He lived with a 12-15 year old child and has been around children of all ages. He plays exuberantly with all people. He lived with a small female dog for 2 days and met others outside. He’s relaxed, playful, and plays exuberantly with them.
BEHAVIOR – Guellelo barks, jumps at, and bites his family members as they exit the home. He does this to the female teenager, 1 adult female, and 1 adult male in the home, but only barks at (doesn’t bite) his primary caretaker (an adult female). He sometimes breaks skin but hasn’t in the past 10 days and has never caused serious injury. His family stated that he’s left alone for long periods of time. Guellelo doesn’t mind storms but barks during fireworks. He’s friendly with strangers that approach his home/family. He doesn’t mind when someone moves him off furniture, wakes him up, or brushes him. He’s nervous but tolerant during baths. He growls when someone takes his food/treat/toy, picks up and holds him, or trims his nails.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW – Guellelo’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, pushy, excitable, and high energy. He follows the teenage girl in his family, keeps her company, and cuddles with her. He plays tug and likes stuffed and squeaky toys. He lived inside and slept in a chair. He ate weight control Science Diet dry food. He’s housetrained and doesn’t have accidents. He potties outside (preferably on grass) and on wee-wee pads. He’s well-behaved when home alone. He knows sit and stay. He went for brisk walks and jogs and pulls on his leash.
INTAKE – Guellelo was tense with whale eye while we scanned him (-). He walked with us and had a soft body while we took his pictures. His owner collared him, picked him up, and put him in a kennel, during which he was soft bodied and tolerant.
BEHAVIOR—Experienced Home with No Children:
Guellelo is fearful of the shelter environment he walks with a low and fearful body language. Guellelo was extremely fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. He had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. Guellelo was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. He does not approach other dog, attempts to exit.
Guellelo was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Guellelo is friendly and outgoing with strangers. He lived with a 12-15 year old child and has been around children of all ages. He plays exuberantly with all people. He lived with a small female dog for 2 days and met others outside. He’s relaxed, playful, and plays exuberantly with them. He growls when someone takes his food/treat/toy, picks up and holds him”. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. This dog is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up and an adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment. We also recommend a home without children.
