05/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gucci came to us as an owner surrender on 5/15/15. Owner describes him as having a high activity level and very playful. He has not been around children or cats, but shared a home with a puppy that he loved to play with. Gucci played with toys and jumped up to be petted during intake. He walked nicely on his relief walk and on his way to the SAFER assessment room. Gucci allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands for Look item, but snapped at hand without applying pressure during second pass of Sensitivity item. Behavior Team was unable to conduct the remaining tactile portions due to Gucci snapping. During Food item, Gucci calmly allowed the food bowl to move forward and lifted his head with a bit of pressure applied by assess-a-hand. Owner has reported Gucci does not like his food bothered while eating and will growl, but he did not exhibit that behavior during assessment. Gucci did not originally have much interest in toy, but once he engaged he kept a firm grip and froze. He growled while settled close to rawhide. During social time in the yard with other dogs, Gucci is social and greets other dogs politely. Due to his snapping and potential for guarding behaviors with various resources, Gucci must be placed with a New Hope partner. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 5. Dog snaps, no pressure. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: 4. Dog freezes. Rawhide: 4. Dog growls. Dog-to-dog: Greets politely, social.

A shelter staff member writes:
Every dog deserves a happy home, and Gucci is certainly in need of one too! Gucci is very active and loving, and although hasn’t been around other cats and children, he has behaved well around a puppy the previous owner also had in the home. This little dog really needs someone to step forward and love him again as he may feel like he’s all forgotten in the all new environment. Come to MACC and show Gucci that he is something special and that he’s certainly not taken for granted!
