SAFER: NEW HOPE ONLY
The previous owner reports Gremlin is relaxed, playful, respectful, and tolerant when he is around other dogs, but does not do well around children. It was stated that he is a house trained, and is well behaved when left inside the home alone as well as in the yard. Gremlin was best described as being playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, mellow, independent, and friendly. The owner mentioned that Gremlin is nervous when he hears loud noises of any kind. It was also mentioned that Gremlin is not bothered when someone takes his food, toys, or treats away from him, and he is also not bothered when he is given a bath, having his nails trimmed, or his fur brushed.
During the Intake process it was reported that Gremlin was well behaved and interactive. He allowed all handling and was easily collared, but during his medical exam it was reported that Gremlin was very tense and nervous. During SAFER Gremlin maintained a stiff body posture and was not social, but was tolerant of most handling items, and was relaxed during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Gremlin snapped at the assess-a-hand when pushed out of the food bowl, and was not interested in the toys or rawhides. Due to the behaviors displayed on SAFER Gremlin would do best in a home without children, and the department recommends placement with a New Hope partner who can further explore the behaviors seen while in the care center, and can extensively counsel potential adopters before placement into a permanent home.
