07/09/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Green came into the care center with no information on his behaviors in a previous home. Upon intake it was noted that Green appeared to be a bit nervous. During SAFER Green maintained a low and fearful body posture and needed a very slow approach. He allowed most handling items to be conducted, but on the second attempt of the paw handling item he became stiff and uncomfortable not allowing the assessor to hold his paw. During the tag interaction Green was fearful but followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a low body position. During the resources portion of the assessment Green was easy to handle when engaged with the food item, allowing the assessor to easily push him out of the food bowl, and he was not interested in the toys or rawhide items. Green has been showing fearful behavior and avoids interaction in the care center. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Green is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. The department recommends an experienced adopter and it is also recommended that introductions are done slowly, and Green be given the opportunity to interact at his own pace. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip licks. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, or low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw body a bit tense. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Green is nervous but does tolerate brief interaction with other dogs.

07/03/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs Green is fearful, remaining lying down in a corner throughout the interaction. He allows greeting but does not move. 7/7 Update: Green remains fearful, lip licking, crouched body positioning, does explore somewhat but eventually hides. Tolerant but does not engage. 7/8 update: Green is nervous but does tolerate brief interaction with other dogs. 7/9 update: Green greets politely but will spend most of his time hiding form other dogs. He may approach calmer dogs to sniff but will walk away when they attempt to reciprocate.
