07/26/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I had to meet Gorgeous…..And yes, she deserves so well her name as she is truly a masterpiece…Gorgeous is a blue nose who has been beautifully cared for by an “interim” owner. We do not know much about her far away past but what we heard from her short term master is quite pleasant. She has been a mother at least once and closing my eyes, I can see this towboy of a girl transforming into a lovely Madonna. Gorgeous lived in harmony with children and three unlikely companions, three Yorkies(surrendered too), MooMoo, Riot and April. Gorgeous pretty much exclusively lived in house…never taken out. She is described as a good listener and a friendly gal, very playful and high energy. I can’t imagine how such an enthusiastic dog could have been kept indoors without strolls even around the block..for months…She enjoys toys, balls, playing fetch, chase, is well behaved when left alone and very welcoming of strangers. I loved my time with Gorgeous. She is quite friendly, loves caresses, kisses galore and is an enthusiastic ball player. I suspect that she would love to keep the toy for herself but with a little coaxing, she aggrees to share it with me. Smart girl!! Gorgeous loves food and does not have the best table manners. She does sit for chicken, though but likes to grab. This is a no no!!! Gorgeous is indeed a good listener and corrects nicely her behavior. She is a strong girl who pulls on the leash but nothing that I can not handle. We know she gets along with little dogs but nothing is known about her relationship with dogs her size. One wonders if she ever met any before to come to the care center where in playgroups , she seemed a little taken aback by her own kind. I love Gorgeous, a big girl, energetic, smart, playful and affectionate. Life in person….Will you consider her, will you give her a chance? She is so worth to be your forever best friend ! Ask to meet Gorgeous at the Manhattan Care Center.
07/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gorgeous was loose and wiggly upon entering the assessment but was distracted by other stimuli in the room other than the assessor. She engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open, jumps up on the assessor and jumps up to mouth leash. Gorgeous is very strong and intent on eating, her body was a bit stiff and cannot be pushed out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. She took the toy away but her body remained loose and wiggly, she kept a firm grip on the rawhide with a neutral body. Gorgeous was brought to the care center as a stray; upon intake she was friendly and very excited. Her finders had her in their home for about a month. The finder’s described her as playful, confident and excitable with a high energy level. Goreous is reportedly playful and relaxed with children, but due to her size she sometimes unintentionally gets rough. While she did remain friendly throughout handling, she is a strong dog and would occasionally jump on the assessor hard not realizing her strength and size. The finder reports Gorgeous is friendly when someone attempts to take her toys, treats, or her food bowl, however, she did become a bit stiff and was unable to be pushed out of her food bowl. The Behavior Department feels Gorgeous would do best in an experienced home with no young children that is prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for her energy. Gorgeous shows a mild potential to become possessive over her food, we recommend adopters also be comfortable monitoring and positively modifying any potential possessive behaviors if they manifest in the home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity:1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture, panting. Tag:1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze1&2: 1. Dog does not respond for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Licks assessor’s hand. Food3. Dog follows the dish, her tail is low, ears are forward. Her body is a bit stiff. Dog does not lift her head from the bowl when hand is applied to her cheek. Toy2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness.
