10/17/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I fell in love with this meathead! Appropriately named after the Muppet character, Gonzo the Great, our boy is a mush and “great” in every way. Gentle, sweet, easy and smart, he’s curious about everything, is housetrained, sits when asked and takes treats gently. He pulls on the leash a bit as he was so happy to be out for a walk, taking advantage of the ‘facilities’ several times! Off leash he comes when I make squeaky sounds at him, and when he takes treats he gently takes them with his whole mouth. Gonzo the Great has been in playgroups where he’s tolerant, greets others and then roams the pen. I love the brown ‘love button’ on top of his head, and playfully press it often to get a kiss. Gonzo may have some vision impairment in one eye but nothing slows him down, nothing stops him from enjoying the company of others, and nothing stops him from loving his person. He’s a big mush, our boy, and is looking for a gentle, easy, soft person or family with whom to spend the rest of his life. I wish it could be me, but it can’t – but if you’re lucky it could be you. Gonzo aced his behavior assessment indicating he will be a good fit in most homes. Come meet him and fall in love.
10/13/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gonzo walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Gonzo was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Gonzo was not interested in toys or rawhide. Gonzo did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.
10/14/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Gonzo is polite when greeting and may briefly engage in gentle play with other dogs. Based on play group observations, the behavior department feels that Gonzo may do well placed in a home with a calm dog, or a dog that has a gentler play style. Gonzo has not yet been introduced to male dogs at the care center, so his behaviors around them are unknown and an adoption interaction is recommended. When off leash with other dogs, Gonzo greets politely. He shows some interest by re-approaching and interacting, but does not engage in play. Gonzo spends more time exploring his surroundings in the yard. 10/15 update: Gonzo greets, then roams the pen. He is tolerant of an energetic younger dog. 10/17 update: Gonzo is a bit sexually motivated but will play when solicited. 10/18: Gonzo greets politely and continues to interact.
