10/05/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
10/05/15 16:17 Basic Information Gom is a 6 year old male chow chow that came in today as owner surrender. Owner stated that he got him as a gift from a friend 2 years ago and has had him since but decided to surrender him out of fear that he might be sick. Owner has never taken Gom to the vet however; he will undergo a complete medical examination. Social Life & Personality Gom has not been associated with children or cats and is not like other dogs. He barks and growls at them. He is house-trained and is kept indoors only. He has a low activity level and owner described him as playful, affectionate, shy, mellow and friendly. Behavior Issues Gom doesn’t have any behavior issues. Owner stated that he isn’t bothered with objects or food being taken from him but is afraid of baths. Upon intake, Gom displayed signs of fear. His tail was tucked and he refused to move off the floor after his owner left. It is believed that he understands commands in Korean since his owner didn’t speak English well. He allowed his self to be photographed but assistance was needed to collar him. For a New Family to Know Owner named him Gom because it means bear in Korean. He does not know any commands and did not play with toys. Owner stated that he would mostly lye around the house. When home, Gom often followed owner around but he is well behaved when left in the house alone. He eats both wet and dry food and he sleeps just about anywhere in the house.

10/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gom came to us as an owner surrender on 10/5/15. Gom is not thriving in the shelter environment and is showing no interest in human interaction and is unsocial with the Assessor. He has been demonstrating this behavior since intake. So, in an effort to reduce stress for Gom in this environment a complete SAFER was not conducted. The assessor was only able to complete the look and sensitivity items where Gom did allow the touch but did not display any signs of aggression. He showed no interest in any of the resource items as well on this portion of the assessment. Due to the behavior that Gom is currently displaying the behavior department believes that the predictability of these SAFER scores may be inaccurate at this time. We do not feel that the SAFER is an appropriate assessment at this time and due to the limited known history from his previous home we feel that placement with a New Hope partner is best. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog lays still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed during the assessment item. Food: No interest Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.
