12/03/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Goliath came into our center after a neighbor found him abandoned when his previous owners moved out. Finder reports Goliath was left with small dogs and several cats. It is reported he is timid around children and strangers, will tuck his tail and crouch, trying to flee. Goliath was hesitant on leash walking towards SAFER assessment room. He was cautious but allowed all handling when approached slowly. Goliath allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body neutral. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, tail down, mouth closed. Goliath was cautious during Tag game, did not follow at the end of the leash but had no response to each pass. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, lip lick. Goliath showed no interest in Toy. He approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, tail at spine level, not playful. He investigated and then turned away. Due to report of discomfort around children, the Behavior Team feels Goliath would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have children. He may benefit from a calm, quiet, structured environment so he can relax and know what to expect in his new home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body neutral, mouth closed, ears neutral. Tag: 2. Dog is cautious but unresponsive when touched. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not pull his paw back, lip lick. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 1. Dog approaches the helper dog, soft or loose body, not playful, tail down, investigates then turns away.
