A volunteer writes: It’s hard not to notice Goldie’s ears. She looks like the flying nun, they are as adorable as her cute little stubby tail which is accentuated by her muscular body. Goldie was brought to us when the NYPD found her wandering around Staten Island unattended. Goldie is very friendly and quite affectionate and she transitions nicely from playing to cuddle buddy. If you’re looking for a fun new companion, look no further. Goldie is for you. Come to Staten Island ACC and meet her.
12/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Goldie came into our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. She was friendly and soliciting attention upon intake and during her initial medical exam. Goldie pulled hard on leash during her relief walk. She was sociable and friendly upon entering the SAFER assessment area. Goldie held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, open mouth panting. She stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body very soft. Goldie was distracted during Tag game, but jumped up playfully on assessor at end of game. She gently pulled her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, tail wag. Goldie very playfully and enthusiastically engaged with Toy, shaking it a lot, loose body and wagging tail, but relinquished very easily. While waiting for dog to dog item, Goldie began to jump up a bit moderately in intensity and lightly mouthing, but redirected easily. She approached the helper dog a bit quickly, but not stiff, ears forward, tail above spine level. The Behavior Team feels Goldie would do best with an Experienced adopter. She may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners as well as not to jump up or mouth. Goldie is a relatively energetic dog who will benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise, play as well as durable toys such as kongs and nylabones to positively direct her high energy and enthusiasm. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with very soft body, open mouth pant. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and jumps on assessor playfully at end. She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog plays very enthusiastically with Toy, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog a bit quickly, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
