07/16/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
Gizmo A1044320 is a 2yr old neutered male German Pincher/Jack Russell Terrier Mix who was purchased off of online 1yr & 4months ago and is being surrendered due to the owner going through personal problems. Gizmo was last seen at a veterinarian in November of 2014 and has no know injuries but does have seasonal allergies. Gizmo is shy for a few minutes around strangers. He’s lived with a 10yr old and was around a 2yr old, with the 10yr old he was relaxed/playful and would play gently and exuberantly the same with adults. With the 2yr old he was gentle but most times he would ignore and or walk away from the toddler. When Gizmo sees dogs on the street sometimes he barks at them while his tail wags. He’s never been around or lived with cats or dogs. Gizmo has never bitten/scratched a person or animal. Gizmo isn’t bothered by storms/fireworks. Gizmo isn’t bothered by the following: having his food, toys, treats touched/moved, being moved off of furniture (he’ll jump off then back on), being given a bath or with being brushed. While being held/restrained at the vet and while getting his nails trimmed he’ll struggle/squirm to get away. When someone unfamiliar approaches the home/family member Gizmo will bark. He hasn’t been disturbed while sleeping/resting so behaviors are unknown. Gizmo is described as friendly, very affectionate, playful, shy (with strangers at first), mellow (at times), excitable, independent and fearful (at times, he doesn’t like to be alone). His activity level is medium. The owner loves how affectionate and playful/silly Gizmo is. Gizmo loves to be outside playing fetch/catch. He likes ball toys & loves squeaky toys. He’s in indoor dog who has access to a patio. Gizmo sleeps in bed with the owner or on the floor. Gizmo eats (1x a day) only human food. He enjoys bacon & lamb roast twist roll treats. He’s very housetrained. He uses a wee wee pad indoors and “goes” outside on grass and trees. When left home alone he’s well behaved. He’ll spend time in his crate when he wants alone time or to enjoy a treat to himself. His known command is “sit”. Gizmo is walked 3x a day (15-20mins) where he’ll pull on the leash sometimes. Gizmo was fearful/nervous when approached by the admissions counselor. He tried to hide behind his owner. To minimize his stress the owner assisted with collaring, scanning and placing him into a kennel. While being transported into our van he stayed close to an admissions counselor and allowed her to pet him
07/19/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A tiny head couched in a chubby, huggable body and two bright little eyes peering hopefully out at me…who is this funny wee creature? Adorable Gizmo is in a class of his own and while there’s no telling exactly what breeds contributed to that family tree, I can assure you he is 100 percent purebred cutiepie! Surrendered to our care when his owner ran into some personal problems, Gizmo has lived in harmony with 10 and 2-year-old human siblings and he tailored his interactions with them perfectly, playing exuberantly yet gently with the older child and simply walking away when the toddler became ‘too much’. He knows a command for ‘sit’ and is crate trained as well, even voluntarily going inside for ‘alone time’ or to enjoy a tasty treat in peace. We’re told he loves to play with toys (especially the squeaky ones) and when asked what her favorite thing about him was, Gizmo’s former owner named his ‘playful, silly’ personality. Though a little shy at first, he’s easy to leash, walk and handle and seems to be very house trained too. Gizmo acknowledges other dogs in a friendly but noncommittal way and basically ignores human passersby but he clearly enjoys our stroll in the park, especially the part where he gets to sniff and snuffle his way through the grass. Described by his family as friendly, affectionate and mellow, high stress levels hold him back from initiating cuddles at this time but Gizmo has no problem with me petting and hugging him for our photo shoot (though he’s very camera-shy) and in a new home where he feels safe and loved I’ve no doubt that he’ll be happily curled up on the sofa in no time. Only 2 years old and with so much still to give to the world, Gizmo is the kind of quirky yet beautiful dog you remember for a lifetime. This chunky monkey needs someone to step up for him today, will you be the lucky one he chooses?
07/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gizmo came to us as an owner surrender on 7/16/15. It was reported by the owner that Gizmo is a friendly, very affectionate, and shy dog. He has lived with two children of the ages of two and ten. The owner described Gizmo as being relaxed and playful with the 10 year old as well as adults, but did not interact much with the two year old. Gizmo was very nervous with tense body language when entering the behavior room. He warmed a bit after a few minutes and allowed the assessor to conduct most of the handling items, but tried to bite the assessor during the sensitivity test. Gizmo showed no interest in any of the resource items, and would not approach another helper on leash. The behavior department believes that Gizmo would be best placed with a rescue that can work with Gizmo before placing in a home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is very stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog tries to bite. Food: No interest Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, or exits.
07/21/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Gizmo is nervous and may interact briefly with the other dog but spends most of his time exploring his surroundings. 7/22 update: Gizmo allows greeting but is more interested in exploring his surroundings.
