A staff member writes: Meet Ginger! Ginger appears fearful in the shelter environment, but also seems like she has a lot of love to offer. She will come to the front of her kennel to say hello and briefly engage in a playful bounce or two, but then retreats a little further back to the safety of her bed. We feel that this pup would benefit from a home where she is allowed to warm up to her new humans at her own pace and get comfortable in her forever home. Take this pretty girl home and let her show you what a great best friend she can be!
BEHAVIOR—Experienced Home
Ginger is fearful of the shelter environment she walks with a low and fearful body language. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body and tail, but trying to stay close. Ginger had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. She was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. Ginger was not interested in toys or rawhide.
The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. Ginger is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Ginger is more comfortable and settled in a home environment.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.

GROUP BEHAVIOR: When off leash with other dogs, Ginger is initially nervous upon entering the yard. She is tolerant of being sniffed but will correct pushy behavior from another dog. She eventually warms up and approaches to sniff a calmer male.8/19 update: Ginger us initially a bit nervous but warms up and begins to solicit brief bouts of play. She will offer corrections for rough play.
