A volunteer writes: Giggle is looking for a home in which she’ll have a canine companion! Timid, shy and unsure of her new surroundings, she comes to life around other dogs! Joining us when she was abandoned with her friend Kaboom (A1047615), Giggle keeps her tail tucked and doesn’t seem familiar with a leash. I carried her outside where we could hang out together, getting to be friends. After chatting a bit she came into me for a cuddle, and gave me a quick kiss. So sweet! It took a while, but she walked on leash a bit, keeping her tail tucked. She’s beautiful, petite, and cloaked in a shiny well taken care of coat….she’s just shy and perhaps under socialized. We sat on the sidewalk together, Giggle leaning into me for comfort. She’s alert and curious, looking up at everyone who passed, noticing everything going on in the street. Off leash in a pen she wandered a bit, clearly more comfortable without a leash, and when introduced to other dogs – eureka! Her tail wagged, she play bowed, she had fun with several different dogs. She needs a home in which she can take her time to feel secure and safe, and will thrive with another dog as her best friend. She’s a little peanut who doesn’t have much to giggle about right now, but I’m looking forward to her living up to her name in her new home. We know she will!

Basic Information
Giggle was brought in as a return, after being adopted on 8/19/15. Client stated that Giggle is a good dog, and is very friendly.
Shelter Observation
Giggle has progressed excessively since her initial intake on 8/12/15. Giggle was described as “paralyzed with fear” on her initial intake behavior. Everyone who interacted with her noted that she was timid and afraid. Giggle is somewhat of a social butterfly now. She allows staff to pet her immediately, and shows affection towards everyone. While being walked she stops to interact with both staff, as well as her friends currently in their kennels.
Behavior during Intake
Giggle was very friendly during intake. She immediately came to staff, and allowed staff to pet and rub her belly. Giggle sat in staff member’s lap, while playing with her chew toy. Giggle showed no resistance during handling, she remained very relaxed and friendly. She accepted treats from counselor’s hand, and remained gentle when offered. Giggle showed no signs of aggression during intake.
Behavior:
Giggle walks with a low fearful body language on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Giggle was shy during handling with a fearful body language. She had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. Giggle did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She was not interested in toys or rawhide.
The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. Giggle is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Giggle is more comfortable and settled in a home environment.
Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick.
Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
