08/19/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: There’s nothing ghostlike about our little guy! A bit shy in his kennel when we first meet, a little chat won him over and out we go. Taking advantage of being outside in every way tells me he’s likely housetrained and off we go for a walk. He pulls on the leash so will benefit from a harness or some leash training, but he checks up often as we walk, tail wagging and wearing a big smile so he’s anxious to please and should learn quickly. He also loves treats, sitting for them before being asked, and that will help in any needed positive reinforcement training. He’s an awesome little guy, a total snuggle boy, greeting a staff member with a big stand up hug and a happy tail wag. When he knows he’s with a friend he’s a wiggle butt, tail spinning excitedly and doing a little happy dance. Enjoying a plush toy Ghost carries it around the pen a bit, and then comes into my lap for more cuddles. The occasional time he isn’t smiling, his face is serious and looks like he’s concentrating on something. He’s adorable! Our little guy is looking for a new home which will give him some time to know that he’s safe and with a family or person who will love him forever. It won’t take long for him to figure it out, and he’s sure worth it!
08/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ghost came into our center on 8/17/2015 after a member of the public reported him running loose. Upon intake, he was very wiggly with fast wagging tail, jumping up and catching treats. Ghost pulled out of assessor’s hands three times during Look item. He leaned in to assessor during Sensitivity item, mouth open, ears back, tail wagging. He was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, quickly escalating with running ahead and jumping up, taking a few moments to settle at end, grabbing leash. He required a moderate amount of pressure to be removed from the Food dish, body a bit stiff. Ghost engaged with Toy and Rawhide, playfully keeping a firm grip, loose body. When off leash with other dogs Ghost allows greeting but is initially a bit anxious and uncomfortable. He warms up and begins to solicit rough running play with both males and females. He is bouncy and vocal. Due to his size and strength, the Behavior Team feels he would do best with an Experienced adopter. He may benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise, and play to positively direct his high energy. He may also benefit from obedience classes to learn self-control and body awareness in regards to jumping up as well as the command ‘drop it’ and trade up games. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2.
