05/16/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Adopted from us a while ago and found as a ‘stray’ Ghost is the wiggliest butt dog in town! As he sees me approach his kennel, the tail wags, the face smiles and the butt wiggles. I wish my friends were as excited to see me as he was! Well fed and clearly well socialized, Ghost is ready to not only make friends with every person he meets, he’s ready to give kisses, curl up in a vacant lap (NO LAP SHALL REMAIN EMPTY — is his motto), and roll in, show his cute belly for a rub, and seriously consider himself a lap dog. Taking advantage of a walk to do his business immediately tells me he’s housetrained, and his great leash manners make for a fabulous walk to the park. We take some pictures and then head into the backyard for off leash time. He seems to like other dogs, either wagging his tail in appropriate greeting or simply ignoring them, sometime preferring the company of his human. After all, another dog doesn’t have a lap to curl into! Ghost’s favorite things clearly are: belly rubs, lap sitting, kisses and treats and any order will do. Ghost is guaranteed to make you laugh at how hard he works to fit himself into your lap, and he makes it happen! His soft energy, sweet and loving personality has already won the hearts of staff and volunteers. It will win yours too! Come meet our friendly Ghost today! Another volunteer writes: Ghost – just his name makes me smile, and after spending time with him my smile was even bigger. We walked to the park, Ghost showing off his leash manners and housetraining skills and then making friends with a woman who wanted to meet him. In the back yard he’s a rock star ball player, doing a little hop in front me as he waits for the throw – his eyes sparkle, his tail wags and that dance – it doesn’t get cuter than that! He returns the ball for another throw and I can take it out of his mouth for the next toss and I get to see that little dance again. When we were both played out we snuggled together on a bench and Ghost is an amazing snuggle buddy. He curls up, he curls in, he’ll curl whatever way he needs to for ultimate closeness. I love love love this dog and as soon as you meet him you’ll feel that way too.
05/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ghost walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Ghost was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He showed some concerning behavior during the food bowl test – stiffening and growling, but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. Ghost was not interested in toys but took the rawhide away, body language was stiff. Ghost approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long. Ghost was friendly during the assessment but he shows some guarding issues during the food bowl and rawhide test. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior. We also recommend a home without children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long or neutral. Helper:A1035904
