07/03/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Genisis only lived with adults and has not lived with any children nor was she socialized with them. She has lived with other dogs but does not play with them. Around strangers Genisis was reported to be fractious and will bark, growl, and snap when too close. The owner states Genisis is mostly behaved in the home but will chew on napkins left around or will take shoes and slippers and run around with them. The owner had an automatic feeder and does not know how she will react to food or treat being taken away, and she was reported to be house trained. At intake Genisis was reported to bark at the Counselor for introductions, and would not allow any handling. When removing Genisis from her kennel she had stiff body language, and snapped at the handler’s hands, but with a small blanket she allowed the handler to remove her. During SAFER Genisis had stiff and fearful body language, and needed a very slow approach. She allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items, but her body was stiff. During the resources portion of the assessment Genisis was not interested in any of the items, and was more interested in exiting the room. Although Genisis was tolerant of SAFER handling, she has been reported to snap when movements are done to quickly, so the department recommends placement with a New Hope partner, so these behaviors seen while in the care center can be more fully explored before adoption into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip licks. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Genisis is a bit nervous but tolerant when greeted.
